Sodexo Plans Second Life Virtual Career Fair — No shoes, no shirt, no problem!
By Kerry Noone, Marketing Communications Specialist

That’s right, you don’t have to worry about what you are going to wear to this job interview because no one is going to see you…technically, that is. On February 11, 2008, Sodexo will once again host a virtual career fair on Second Life, a 3-D virtual world. So, while you can come to this interview without shoes, you might want to make sure your Avatar – a virtual you – is dressed appropriately and knows how to walk and talk inside the Second Life virtual world.

Sodexo was one of the first companies to join their media partner, TMP Worldwide, for its first virtual career fair on Second Life. Second Life is an Internet-based virtual world developed by San Francisco-based Linden Labs. A downloadable program allows its users to interact with each other through on-screen characters known as avatars.

While the encounter may sound odd at first, the virtual career fair provides Sodexo a great opportunity to find innovative, creative people, and it provides job seekers direct access to our recruiters. Second Life is fun, but make no mistake: It’s also very real. We are interviewing real candidates for real jobs.

So how does it work?

If you are not already a Second Life user, just visit www.secondlife.com to create your free Avatar and download the SL application. Sodexo has a variety of entry-level management positions and internships available throughout the United States. Click here to view position details and to apply for an invitation to the job fair. A quick screening will let you know if you’re eligible to participate and direct you to submit your Avatar and schedule your interview.

If your career aspirations include seeking employment opportunities with an innovative, cutting-edge and diverse organization, join us for our Second Life Career Fair on February 11, 2008. Attendance is limited, so register soon!
