Meet Kim Adams, Sodexo Education Schools District Manager
By Michelle Thomas, Senior Manager, Diversity Recruitment
Tell us about our background? I attended the University of Notre Dame, where I received a degree in Organizational Management. After graduation, I was hired as a management trainee by Marriott Hotels, where I moved up the ranks and eventually became a Food and Beverage Director. After spending seven years on the hotel side of the business, I wanted to expand my experience so I left Marriott and joined Marriott Management Services, which eventually became Sodexho Marriott and is now known as Sodexo.
For the past 19 years, my career has grown exponentially with Sodexo. I have had the opportunity to transfer between the Health Care, Campus Services and School Services divisions. With each transfer, I was promoted into positions of increasing responsibility. Most recently, I was promoted into the position of District Manager in School Services, where I manage a district which is composed of 12 independent schools in the Southeast. Sodexho is now SODEXO
In 2008, 42 years after its creation, Sodexho has become Sodexo. One of Sodexo’s goals is to be the leading global expert of Quality of Life Services by the year 2015. To help us reach this goal, we have modernized our logo and changed the spelling to a more phonetic “Sodexo” (dropping the “h”), which is easier to pronounce and spell.
In addition, in Europe, the “h” is associated with the hotel business. Sodexo wants to build on our heritage and expertise in foodservice while expanding into a full range of quality-of-life services, including facilities management.

By Jerry Paulison, Senior Director, Talent Acquisition
For the past eight years, Sodexo has been an active sponsor of the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality’s (NSMH) annual conference. NSMH is the premier organization for hospitality students, and their annual conference is an opportunity for their student members to network with one another, as well as with industry professionals from around the country. This year’s conference, which was held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was the most successful conference to date. This success can be attributed in no small part to the large presence that Sodexo had throughout all facets of the event. To learn more click here.

Sodexo Hosts Open House and Participates in 2008 Hospitality Expo at Cal Poly Pomona
By Rojwol Shresta, Sodexo Ambassador
In preparation for the 2008 Cal Poly Pomona Hospitality Expo, Sodexo held an open house on February 13th for 30 Collins School of Hospitality Management students. Key Sodexo personnel from various divisions such as Food Service Manager Emmylou Tolentino and General Manager Sandie Villa were on hand to answer questions and to speak with students about their careers with Sodexo. Additionally, Senior Recruiter Colleen Mckie spoke to the students about the numerous career opportunities available to college students.
The next day, Sodexo proudly participated in the school’s exclusive career expo, which is limited to only 55 leading companies in the hospitality industry. As one of the top hospitality schools in the United States, the Collins School is exactly the type of institution where Sodexo will continue to place its resources. According to the school’s Web site, “Over ninety percent of each year’s graduating class accepts management positions before commencement.” This fact fits well with the company’s aggressive pursuit to hire top talent before they graduate.
The Sodexo Global Chef Exchange Program Brought the “Flavors of Colombia” to the University of Mary Washington Community
University of Mary Washington junior Matt Kastrinsky called the school's recent "Flavors of Colombia" luncheon the best meal he'd ever had there. The food wasn't exotic, but it was fresh. "It tastes like real food that's not coming out of a large packaged container," Kastrinsky said.
Prepared by Colombian chef Joaquín Suârez, the meal included grilled chicken with passion fruit, yucca, small tomatoes stuffed with mashed potatoes, baby carrots with mint, three-potato and chicken soup, and rice pudding.
The event, which was open to the public, was sponsored by Sodexo, which provides dining services for UMW and more than 850 other colleges in the U.S. It's part of the company's month-long Global Chef Program. To learn more click here. |
