It’s Easy Being Green at Sodexo!

Once touted as just a fad, it is clear that green business practices are here to stay. In Sodexo’s Facilities Management and Environmental Services areas, an array of different green products and techniques have been implemented over the last several years. These initiatives help Sodexo’s customers and employees stay healthy by reducing indoor air quality issues, minimizing risks of exposure to chemicals, and reducing respiratory problems. Green cleaning also improves the lifespan of a building by reducing damage and premature aging, which helps to preserve the environment. “Green is the right thing to do because it creates a safer indoor environment for our employees and customers. Our experience so far has been that our green initiatives improve outcomes, save money and periodically remove barriers to cleaning,” says Larry Garrone, Senior Brand Manager for Sodexo’s Health Care division.

One of Sodexo’s “green” success stories can be found at Colorado College, where we were recently honored with the 2008 Green Cleaning Award for Schools and Universities from American School & University magazine, the Green Cleaning Network and the Healthy Schools Campaign. Sodexo reduced water usage at the school by 247,000 gallons per year when it switched to microfiber clothes and mops. Sodexo also installed chemical-dispensing systems that reduce waste and are stocked with environmentally preferable chemicals at the school, and began utilizing floor-stripping machines that use water as opposed to harsh chemicals. The end result is a clean college that is also environmentally friendly. This is just one example of the many successes that Sodexo has had with its green initiatives. We are looking forward to continuing to find new and innovative ways to help make every day a better (and greener) day.
