Sodexo’s Chief Administrative Officer Helps Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

The Honorable Michael Montelongo, Sodexo’s Chief Administrative Officer, was recently invited by the Washington, DC Chapter of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) to participate in a panel discussion celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Michael was happy to answer the call. In addition to the spirit of service embedded in his DNA as a Sodexo employee, Michael played a role in forming the DC NSHMBA chapter in the mid-1990s. At the event, Michael shared his experience in building his own career and underscored the importance of taking advantage of educational opportunities. He stated, “If there is a silver bullet for individuals who are traditionally at the lower end of the economic scale in our society and are minorities, it’s education. Education is something that can never be taken away from you and will stay with you for as long as you live. Education is a key to your success, and it will help you pursue your dreams and turn your dreams into reality – this is what the whole American dream is all about.”

NSHMBA, created in 1988, is known as the "Premier Hispanic Organization" and serves 32 chapters and 8,000 members in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. It works to prepare Hispanics for leadership positions throughout the U.S., so that they can provide the cultural awareness and sensitivity vital in the management of the nation's diverse workforce. Thanks to Michael and his colleagues in the 1990s and the continued efforts of many others over the years, the DC Chapter of NSHBMA is one of the five largest in the nation today.
