Sodexo: Closing the Nutrition Gap

The new school year is underway and with the return to the classroom, Sodexo is hard at work improving the nutrition and health of all the kids and teens we serve. Embracing the goals of Let’s Move, an effort led by First Lady Michelle Obama to solve the childhood obesity epidemic, Sodexo has introduced a program called Student Well-Being. As the first food service provider to sign on to the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s School and Competitive Food Guidelines, Sodexo will be implementing the program this fall across the country. Sodexo’s IT Organization Honored in the CIO 100 Award for 2010

Sodexo received CIO Magazine’s CIO 100 award for an innovative technology solution developed and deployed in our Laundry Services Division. Each year, the magazine looks for companies that are using IT in innovative ways to deliver a competitive advantage to the enterprise and to enable growth.
Sodexo’s Information Services and Technology (IS&T) department worked closely with the Laundry Services Division to overcome three key business challenges: tracking laundry carts that don’t find their way back to the laundry plants, tracking volumes and contract compliance data, and reducing water and energy use to save costs and reduce the company’s carbon footprint. SodexoMAGIC: Making a Difference with the Summer Lunch Program

This summer, SodexoMAGIC partnered with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee to serve more than 16,000 free lunches to children in the Chattanooga area. Chef Jeff Dishes More Than Food

Jeff Henderson, acclaimed author and award-winning chef, is an inspiration to many people who find themselves in a rut with seemingly no way out. Through arduous work and advice from mentors who helped reshape his image and provided job opportunities for him, Henderson was able to rise above adversity and become the first African American to run a restaurant at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
In late September, Chef Jeff (as he is now known) will partner with Sodexo and return to his Vegas roots, where he will dish up honest commentary about his life and career to hospitality students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Eric Brown, recently hired as Sodexo’s Director of Food Service at Howard University, is no novice to the food service industry. In fact, his history in the industry dates back to his own college days at Howard University, where he graduated from this prestigious, historically black college with a degree in Hotel Restaurant Management almost 17 years ago.
Today, managing the multimillion-dollar food service operation that includes a renovated eatery called the Punch Out, Brown attributes his career experience and management style to making Howard a fun and exciting place to work, while delivering outstanding service to Sodexo’s client and customers.
