Sodexo was recognized for its leadership in diversity and inclusion in the workplace by Asian Enterprise magazine, host of the 2010 Asian Entrepreneur of the Year (AEY) Awards. The AEY Awards highlight exemplary Asian Pacific American entrepreneurs, small business and Fortune 500 companies that have made an impact in their respective communities through their efforts to practice and promote diversity, inclusion, excellence and equal opportunity.

For the second year in a row, Sodexo was listed by BLACK ENTERPRISE magazine as a Best Company for Diversity. When selecting companies for this honor, the magazine measured companies in four categories: employee base, board of directors, senior management and supplier diversity.

Sodexo received CIO Magazine’s CIO 100 award for an innovative technology solution developed and deployed in our Laundry Services Division. Each year, the magazine looks for companies that are using IT in innovative ways to deliver a competitive advantage to the enterprise and to enable growth.

Sodexo’s Information Services and Technology (IS&T) department worked closely with the Laundry Services Division to overcome three key business challenges: tracking laundry carts that don’t find their way back to the laundry plants, tracking volumes and contract compliance data, and reducing water and energy use to save costs and reduce the company’s carbon footprint. This summer, SodexoMAGIC partnered with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee to serve more than 16,000 free lunches to children in the Chattanooga area. Volunteers from the Boys and Girls Club, Inner City Ministries and SodexoMAGIC assisted in the ordering and preparation of food from June through August. Read more»

Jeff Henderson, acclaimed author and award-winning chef, is an inspiration to many people who find themselves in a rut with seemingly no way out. Through arduous work and advice from mentors who helped reshape his image and provided job opportunities for him, Henderson was able to rise above adversity and become the first African American to run a restaurant at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

In late September, Chef Jeff (as he is now known) will partner with Sodexo and return to his Vegas roots, where he will dish up honest commentary about his life and career to hospitality students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Eric Brown, recently hired as Sodexo’s Director of Food Service at Howard University, is no novice to the food service industry. In fact, his history in the industry dates back to his own college days at Howard University, where he graduated from this prestigious, historically black college with a degree in Hotel Restaurant Management almost 17 years ago.

Today, managing the multimillion-dollar food service operation that includes a renovated eatery called the Punch Out, Brown attributes his career experience and management style to making Howard a fun and exciting place to work, while delivering outstanding service to Sodexo’s client and customers.
